Coronavirus (Covid-19) Practice Update

Coronavirus has been confirmed within the Practice area. We also have several staff self-isolating. In order to protect the health of both patients and healthcare workers, we would request that you only visit the health centre if absolutely necessary.

From 27 March, we will not be offering face-to-face routine GP and nurse appointments. If you already have a booked appointment, we would request that you contact us to change this to a telephone appointment. If the clinician feels it is essential to see you, you will be offered a time to come to the Practice.

Patients will continue to be triaged for urgent same-day matters. Where possible, they will be dealt with via phone.  Those requiring to be seen will be invited to attend.

There are currently no changes to appointments for blood tests and other procedures.

We are happy to receive requests for prescriptions via our Practice email:

here  The survey comes on the back of last week’s announcement of a Climate Emergency public drop-in event to be held at the Albert Halls on Wednesday, 18 March.

Stirling Council residents and businesses are invited to join the Council and local organisations at the city centre venue for a drop-in session to discuss the climate crisis and the work being done to protect the environment.

Attendees will be able to fill out the survey at the event and anyone not able to attend on the day will be able to access it online here until 31 May.

Vice convener for Environment and Housing, Cllr Danny Gibson, added: “We need to gain a better understanding of how local people view the challenges and opportunities of the Climate Emergency to encourage everyone to take action.

“The Council is beginning that engagement with this survey to gauge the level of support for a range of actions that individuals, the Council and our partners could take. We also want to understand the barriers that prevent people from making changes that would benefit everyone.

“The survey is simple, can be completed quickly, and will be invaluable in shaping our plans to tackle the Climate Emergency in Stirling.”

Guided Walk attracts 120 people
On Saturday 4 January 2020, a group of around 120 people met for a guided walk on the historic Glassingall Estate; 5km north of Dunblane. The walk was organised by Glassingall Residents Association (GRASS) with walkers from Glassingall, Kinbuck, Ashfield, Braco and Dunblane. Among them were historians, naturalists, local and community councillors.

The walk was organised in response to plans by Glassingall Estates Limited to build a 135-unit chalet park on the estate. The Stirling Observer first reported on the proposals by Ann Gloag to develop a 135-chalet park and residential activity centre on 28 August 2019: ‘Tycoon is behind outward bound bid’.

Jo Bicheno, who inspired the idea of the walk, said, ‘We wanted to do something positive as a community. We kept bumping into people that were upset about the proposed development. They were concerned that the community would lose a valuable place where they come for peace and relaxation. We wanted locals to see the wonderful things we see every day before they are gone.’

Glassingall Estate is one of only a few areas in the Allan Water catchment that has Ancient Woodland. Many protected species have made the estate their home including bats, red squirrels and water voles. There are also nesting birds on the RSPB ‘red list’ including barn owls and song thrushes.

Noted historian Dr. Alastair Mann said, ‘The appeal of Glassingall is broader than the natural heritage as impressive as this is. The history of the estate dates back almost 2,000 years, as the World’s oldest Roman frontier road lies within Glassingall. This connected Rome to the Roman Fortress at Inchtuthill, Perthshire. It is a testament to Roman engineering that the road remained in use for the next 1,700 years and it is truly incredible to imagine in whose footsteps you are walking - Agricola, Macbeth, Robert the Bruce, William Wallace and Rob Roy to name but a few.

Alastair went on to say, ‘We have uncovered an 18th century map that shows that the Jacobite Army marched along this road on the eve of the Battle of Sheriffmuir in 1715. It was in Glassingall Estate that they camped, on either side of the road, before the battle. Historic Environment Scotland’s map shows that the Jacobite army mustered at Glassingall on the morning of the battle and it is here where the left flank fled, following the battle. Glassingall, with its open views on to Sheriffmuir, is crucial to our understanding of the Battle of Sheriffmuir.’

With a history of such provenance, one thing we can be certain of is that Glassingall Estate has undiscovered archaeology and preservation of the area is a matter of both national and international importance.

Glassingall is the third large-scale development being pursued by Ann Gloag in the Dunblane area. Both previous proposals were met with widespread opposition and going by the number of people that turned up on a cold and windy January morning, it looks as if the tycoon’s latest venture will be no less controversial.

Midsummer saw double billing on Holme Hill with a family crowd enjoying super weather, brilliant atmosphere and a truly unique outdoor venue.

First to go in late afternoon was "A Midsummer Night's Dream" performed by Rubber Chicken Theatre.  This was really well received with the young actors performing in the woods.  Later in the evening, Ceilidh Minogue struck up and couples and families alike were swirling round the dance floor.  The stone chip dance floor was laid over the tennis court that belonged to the old house, but there are ambitious plans to build a more permanent venue for the future.  A quick thinking organiser realised that the surface wouldn't be ideal for the ceilidh band so ripped a carpet out of a "No Plastics" shop being refurbished in the High Street and upcycled it as a stage.  All in all, a lovely evening was had and the event showcased a venue for Dunblane that will surely host some amazing nights in the future.  Thanks go to the Carman Family Foundation and community volunteers who helped make it such a success.

Shakila K hosts charity concert in Dunblane to honour Sir Andy Murray

Fresh from opening for 1990s boy band, East 17, the 21-year-old Hertfordshire songstress, Shakila K, is hosting a charity concert in Dunblane to honour the town’s famous son, Sir Andy Murray. This concert - taking place in Dunblane’s Victoria Hall on 14th July - coincides with Wimbledon Men’s Final Day.

This concert marks Shakila’s performing debut in Scotland – although she is no stranger to the country as a visitor.

Shakila, who’s currently working on her debut EP, commented, “I’m thrilled to be performing in Dunblane in honour of Sir Andy Murray. It’ll be a highlight of what’s turning out to be an exciting and enjoyable year for me, artistically.

“Sir Andy’s a living legend and, like many others, I was very sad when I heard he might retire this year - saying his ‘goodbyes’ to his fans at the Wimbledon Championships. I hope he doesn’t retire but, whatever he chooses to do, I thought it’d be wonderful if I could do something in Dunblane to celebrate Sir Andy’s impressive list of achievements.

“Since he’s still the reigning Olympic Champion, having won gold at the 2012 London Olympics and retaining the title at the Rio Olympics, I’ll be singing my London 2012 Olympic tribute song, ‘Thank you for the sunshine’, in the Dunblane concert.

“I’m sure the concert will be a great event and it’d be great to find, on the night, a hall packed with people wanting to celebrate Andy Murray’s many achievements so far.”

Shakila, who will soon be announcing some local acts to perform alongside her at the concert in Dunblane, is donating all the profit from ticket sales for this concert to the Victoria Hall.

Thank you for the sunshine
Thank you for the sunshine was a song recorded and released by Shakila as a tribute song for all the people who made the London Olympics a huge success in 2012. This included everyone from the athletes to the volunteers. https://soundcloud.com/karim-ullah/2012-11-27-thank-you-for-the
