Stirling Council is opening a community and business conversation on the climate emergency with a public event in the Albert Halls.

The day-long drop-in session heralds the beginning of an ongoing discussion with all communities across Stirling as the Council calls on the region to tackle the global emergency as one.

A range of Council services will join local and national organisations at the city centre venue on March 18 to discuss the climate crisis and the work currently being done to protect the environment.

Attendees will get a chance to discuss the Climate Emergency, and local solutions for Stirling.

Cllr Jim Thomson, Convener for Environment and Housing at Stirling Council, said: "We declared a climate emergency in October last year and we have been working on our action plan aimed at reducing environmental impacts and developing climate resilience.

"This drop-in event will allow Stirling Council residents to come along, speak to our officers and partners, and discuss how to tackle the climate emergency together. It will also be an opportunity for organisations in Stirling to demonstrate what they are doing to mitigate the impacts of climate change and shape services to protect the planet."

Attending the event alongside the Council will be a range of partners including Scottish Natural Heritage, Transport Scotland, Keep Scotland Beautiful, and the Scottish Environmental Protection Agency.

The day, which will run from 1pm to 7pm, will be focused on six key themes:

• Climate Change
• Travel
• Energy/Homes
• Circular Economy/Waste
• Green Space and Nature
• Food

Environment and Housing Vice Convener, Cllr Danny Gibson said: "The climate emergency has gone straight to the top of the agenda in Stirling and it's crucial we work together to tackle it.

"This is a chance for the people of Stirling to engage with our services and partners and bring real change for the future. We want your help to do this together."

Similar sessions are being planned for the rural area during April/May 2020. Dates have still to be agreed with partners but will be confirmed shortly and will soon be advertised to the public. 

In addition to the focussed engagement sessions, Stirling Council officers will be seeking feedback from established groups such as: Community Councils, Development Trusts, Business Forums, Schools etc.

The Council will also seek to engage with key businesses and employers in the area as well as neighbouring authorities, to maximise opportunities.
