Works on A9 from 6 Nov for 3 months

Amey, as the Operating Company of the Northeast Network Management Contract on behalf of Transport Scotland, will be undertaking a bridge deck refurbishment on the A9 Allan Water Bridge (E: 278424, N: 702706) near Dunblane.

The essential maintenance is required to maintain the safety and integrity of the bridge. Works will include expansion joint replacement, concrete repairs, carriageway and footway re-surfacing, deck re-waterproofing, replacement of kerbs and gully gratings and replacement of existing sub-surface drainage.

The works are programmed to commence on 6th November 2026 and last through to 5th February 2027.

To ensure the safety of roadworkers and motorists, the work will be undertaken using 24/7 contraflow on the A9 (Please see the attached images for location references). Southbound and northbound traffic will operate in a single lane in each direction across Allan Water Bridge.

The northbound carriageway will be closed from 6th November to 7th December 2026, after which the contraflow arrangement will be switched to facilitate refurbishment of the opposite side of the structure, with the southbound carriageway closed from 4th January 2027 to 5th February 2027.

During the festive period, the traffic management will be removed to avoid disruption and will be reinstalled in the new year to re-commence works.

Unfortunately, due to the nature of these works, it is likely that there will be an increase in noise levels. Please be assured that Amey is working to programme operations to minimise any disturbance as much as possible. The noisiest works will be undertaken during daytime hours.

We would appreciate your feedback at this stage to help inform the arrangements and ensure we address any specific local needs.

We intend to issue further wider communications nearer the time with confirmed information of the work timings and traffic management that will be in place. This will include a press release, radio/social media advertising and website page to reach as wide an audience as possible.

Please note, the work dates and traffic management details are subject to change.

All schemes are also weather dependent and may be cancelled, rescheduled or extended if weather conditions are not favourable.
