Connor is a Butcher and a Modern Apprentice

Local butchers David Bennett & Son are delighted to celebrate Scottish Apprenticeship Week 2014 (19 to 23 May) by presenting a member of their staff with their certificate for completion of a Modern Apprenticeship.

Twenty two year old Connor Wilson achieved his Modern Apprenticeship in Specialist Meat & Poultry Skills – Level 3. He is just one of 900 food and drink employees to complete a Modern Apprenticeship in Scotland in the last year.  This apprenticeship, delivered by Perth based, Scottish Meat Training, covers all aspects of the job, from meat preparation and packaging to stock control and customer liaison.

Douglas Scott, Chief Executive of Scottish Meat Training said “Modern Apprenticeships allow people to enter our industry and gain both skills and qualifications, alongside invaluable on-the-job experience while picking up a wage.”

Graham Fleming of David Bennett & Son added:- “We recognise that when it comes to developing the next generation of employees we have to ‘grow our own’.  Using the Modern Apprenticeship route our business continually gain committed and enthusiastic young people who have great potential to progress further.  It is important that our staff have the craft skills that retains the independent butchers’ distinct advantage.”
